What's the point
Studium aims primarily to be a framework of lived knowledge founded in classical philosophy, using the advantages of tech to benefit you instead of to distract you for profit.
Much of the software world suffers from the problem of telos, or "ultimate aim". Software is often not aimed at helping you live better, but making money from by distracting and entertaining you. Pro-human software is the other way around.
The telos of Studium is decidedly for you: to help you integrate knowledge, wisdom, and habits into your life.
Philosophical background
Studium takes its name from the same latin word meaning an eager and transformative striving for knowledge and virtue.
The name reflects the aspiration: not merely to track what you do to technocratically "hack yourself", but to cultivate who you are becoming; what direction your life is moving in through daily decisions.
History of the project
Studium began as a personal project; a simple system for tracking habits and capturing notes without the noise of existing tools. It grew out of needs that I felt as someone who is heavily invested in studying, writing, and maintaining personal disciplines.
Creator
Studium is built and maintained by myself (Evan). I have a background in Philosophy, Theology, and Software engineering.
It's a personal tool made available to others who share similar values. This is not a venture-backed product optimizing for growth.
Long-term vision
Studium is not trying to become a large platform. The long-term vision is to be a small, reliable, well-crafted piece of software that a limited number of people use for a long time.
